What is a 'toolbar'?
The industry standard definition of a toolbar is any row, column or block of onscreen buttons that, when clicked, activate certain functions of a program. In our case, the Viewpoint Toolbar is a row of tabs and buttons that boost the functionality of Internet Explorer by providing a quick, easy and visual way to search for products, services, businesses and information on the Internet. Once you've downloaded our toolbar, it sits below the standard toolbars that come with Internet Explorer; you'll recognize it because of its unique look and the Viewpoint logo on the right side of the bar.

What is the Viewpoint Toolbar?
The Viewpoint Toolbar utilizes our Graphically Enhanced Search (GES) and is powered by Yahoo’s search engine. It is a product that will dramatically improve people’s experience searching the Web, making it faster, more efficient, more productive and more fun.

How is the Viewpoint Toolbar different from other toolbars?
Everyone knows how frustrating searching the Web can be at times. While personal computing has evolved dramatically, becoming faster, easier and more useful than ever before, Search is still stuck in the Dark Ages. The Viewpoint Toolbar is a first. It will bring the search function into the modern era. It makes your search experience more fun, more intuitive and more productive with cool and functional graphical enhancements. And with our built-in smarts, habits enjoyed by the most advanced searchers are made widely available through the Viewpoint Toolbar so that everyone, even novice internet users, get the best search results in the shortest amount of time.

Why use the Viewpoint Toolbar instead of a search homepage?
The Viewpoint Toolbar creates a 'fast lane' for searching the Web. It allows you to save the step of having to load a search homepage before you type in your search; with the Viewpoint Toolbar, the space to enter your search terms is always available to you within the browser itself. Not only that, the Viewpoint Toolbar provides breakthrough technology for seeing your search results before visiting the websites themselves: you can't get that from any other search homepage.

How much does the Toolbar cost?
The beauty of Viewpoint Toolbar is it doesn't cost anyone anything. Revenue comes from advertisers, who would be paying the same amount for paid search anyway.

Does Viewpoint provide a search homepage?
Yes, go to search.viewpoint.com to make sure you're getting the same reliable, relevant results from Yahoo! Search as you do when you're using the Viewpoint Toolbar. And when you perform a search through search.viewpoint.com from a computer that has the Viewpoint Toolbar installed, the toolbar automatically loads all the cool visual search results in the SEARCH RESULTS tray.

What was the genesis of the Viewpoint Toolbar?
Many people find searching the web frustrating, yet more and more people are doing it. We saw a need for a product that would make it more productive and more fun. At the same time, it played to our strength – a sophisticated rich media technology that is sitting on 120 million desktops around the country.

Are you somehow invading my machine to deliver the Toolbar?
No, absolutely not. There are two ways to get it - if you are one of over 120 million Americans - our technology is already on your desktop so you can easily opt in, or you can download it from our web site.

Are the Viewpoint Toolbar or the Viewpoint Media Player spyware?
Absolutely No. Spyware is defined as software that installs on a user’s computer to secretly gather information and relay it back to advertisers or other interested parties. Viewpoint does not gather and relay information to any outside sources. We do not collect any personal information whatsoever. Any information collected is used for the sole purpose of making your experience with our technology optimal.
For more information, please take a moment to read Our Position On Spyware.

What information do you collect?
To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously. Because the Viewpoint Media Player can update itself, we may need to update information regarding the plug-in as new software functionality evolves.
Do you update without my knowledge?
The Viewpoint Media Player is designed to check for the availability of software updates to ensure that you have the latest product improvements. When the Viewpoint Media Player checks for the availability of an update, basic information about the product version and installed components are sent anonymously to Viewpoint. This step determines whether new, free software is available for download. While the ability to automatically update without interrupting your computing experience is the default, you may modify your Viewpoint Manager settings in the control panel as your particular needs dictate.
How can I find out more about your Privacy Policy?
We are committed to your privacy and encourage you to read our full Terms of Use, which outlines our procedures in more detail. We are also happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. You can contact us at searchsupport@viewpoint.com and someone will get back to you directly.

Go to the Help Center Features and Options sections for detailed instructions on how to use and personalize your toolbar.
How does Graphically Enhanced Search work?
Graphically Enhanced Search uses the same powerful technology built into the Viewpoint Media Player to generate cool graphics from your search results. Unlike tradional searches that rely only on the power of the server, we leverage the power built into your PC, to deliver high quality graphics and personalization features. Using GES, you can now SEE the results with thumbnail views and graphical history trails. The technology actively pulls images to your machine and processes the data into an interface that makes searching easier, more intuitive and much more fun.

What if I don’t want the search thumbnail graphics? Can I turn them off?
Absolutely. In fact, we recommend that users with dial-up connections or older computers disable search previews by choosing the "Text Only" view from the drop-down menu at the bottom right of the Search Results tray. Search previews are bandwidth and CPU intensive and have been optimized for higher-end machines.

What is "Comparative Search?"
The Viewpoint Toolbar gives you the power to receive comparative search results in the Search Results tray when using an alternate provider’s webpage or toolbar. Comparative results display in addition to the alternate search results, they do not block them, allowing you to compare and receive the best possible outcome every time.
This feature can be turned on and off from the Options menu located under the Viewpoint logo in your toolbar.

The toolbar tray takes up too much space. Can I turn it off?
You can disable the auto-deploy of the search results page in the Options menu, located under the Viewpoint logo. Still want graphical results? Turn on thumbnail previews on the Results Page.

What are your search capabilities?
Our search backend is powered by one of the leading search engines currently available: Yahoo! So your search results are guaranteed to be fast, relevant, valuable and accurate.

Does the Toolbar change my Internet Explorer settings on Installation?
Upon installation, the Viewpoint Toolbar adjusts some Internet Explorer browser settings to enhance toolbar performance.
The Viewpoint Toolbar disables JavaScript error alerts (small windows dialogs that pop up when you encounter a web page that has a JavaScript error). This feature is generally used by web developers when building web content, and disabling alerts has no other effect on your browsing experience. If you wish to re-enable JavaScript alerts, you can do so by accessing your I.E. browser menu and clicking on "Tools" and choosing "Internet Options." In the "Internet Options" dialog, choose the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to the "Browsing" section and recheck: "Display a notification about every script error."
The Viewpoint Toolbar also defaults your address bar search to provide you search suggestions when you mistype a URL in the browser address bar. You can also use the address bar for regular searches. If you want to disable this feature, go to the Toolbar Options dialog (located under the Viewpoint logo on your toolbar), choose the Searching tab and uncheck 'Perform Search from address bar."

Where are my Favorites?
Viewpoint Toolbar imports your Favorites from the I.E. browser and establishes them in folders located in the Bookmarks tab of the Toolbar. The Toolbar maintains your folder names and settings in both IE and the Toolbar. However, the Toolbar does not support sub-folders at this time therefore only top-level folders and links will be imported to the toolbar. You can access your favorites from the Toolbar by going to the Bookmark tab and clicking on the drop-down menu located on the left of the tray. You can refresh the thumbnail previews for your favorites by clicking the 'refresh' button in the tray.

Can I bookmark all web pages?
Viewpoint Toolbar supports most web pages and will create preview images and precache the website automatically.

Why can’t I see the right half of the Toolbar?
Viewpoint Toolbar has been optimized for a screen resolution of 1024x768. If your computer screen resolution is set to less than 800x600 you will not be able to see some portion of the Viewpoint Toolbar. For optimal use reset your screen resolution to 1024x768 in the Windows Control Panel by selecting the Display icon and clicking the Settings tab.

How do I customize the skin of my toolbar?
1.) Go to the Options menu (found under the Viewpoint logo) and choose Skins.
2.) This opens a dialog box that lets you choose the file you want.
3.) Click on a skin file (with an .mtx file extension) and click "Open."
Your skin will automatically update in the browser.
Also, keep an eye out for new skins. The Viewpoint Skins page will be updated with new skins as they are developed.

How do I hide my toolbar?
Hiding your Toolbar is easy. Just go to your I.E. menu, click VIEW | Toolbars, and uncheck Viewpoint Search. You can reinstate the Toolbar in the same way.

How do I move my toolbar?
The Viewpoint Toolbar can be moved like any other bar in your browser. Just click the grey bar on the very right or left side of the Toolbar and drag it to the position that suits you best.

How do I resize my toolbar?
The Viewpoint Toolbar and Tray can be expanded. Just open your tray to any of the tabs and click on one of the three size options in the left navigation area. The Viewpoint Toolbar also scales automatically as you resize your browser window.

How do I clear my search history?

Installation
Why did I receive the new feature Alert?
The Viewpoint Media Player is designed to check for the availability of software updates to ensure that you have the latest product improvements. When the Viewpoint Media Player checks for the availability of an update, basic information about the product version and installed components are sent anonymously to Viewpoint. This step determines whether updates, upgrades or new features are available for download.

How do I get the Toolbar?
There are two ways to get it - if you are one of over 120 million Americans our technology is already on your desktop so you can easily opt in, or you can download it from our web site.

How do I uninstall the Viewpoint Toolbar?
Click on the Viewpoint logo on your toolbar and choose the Uninstall option. You will be taken to an uninstall page. You can take our survey if you like or skip ahead to the uninstaller. Save the uninstaller to your local machine and run it from there. All associated files and folders will be removed from your computer.

Pop-up Slammer
What is Pop-up Slammer and how does it work?
The Pop-up Slammer is a Pop-up Blocker-like application that does much more than conventional blockers. It prevents unwanted ads from appearing on users’ desktops and forces pop-ups into "quarantine" inside a special tray called the Pop-up Slammer. This gives the user the option to view blocked pop-ups and select any that may be of interest. More importantly, because the Pop-up Slammer uses this quarantine technique, it effectively prevents advertisers from using new technology which is designed to circumvent conventional pop-up blockers. There’s little a pop-up creator can do to prevent a trip to the slammer.

How do I see the pop-ups that have been blocked?
Simply select the tab marked Pop-up Bin, and you'll see your blocked pop-ups as small icons in a tray. If you want to slam those pop-ups for good, select the Empty Bin button and pop-ups stored in the tray will be eradicated.

Can I turn off the pop-up slammer?
Yes. You can turn the Slammer off and on per website by clicking the button located to the right of the Pop-up tab. Each time you return to that site, the Slammer will remember your preference. To turn off the slammer for all sites, go to the Options menu (located under the Viewpoint logo on your Toolbar) and disable the pop-up blocker.

What if I already have a pop-up blocker installed on my computer? Does pop-up slammer work with other pop-up blockers?
The Viewpoint Pop-up Slammer does not function if there are other pop-up blockers active in your I.E. browser. We recommend that you deactivate these Toolbars by going to VIEW in your browser menu, clicking TOOLBARS and un-checking any open toolbars.
